Cabot Financial help please

I know it's Christmas and i'm sure all of you have better things to do than to read this thread...Happy Christmas anyway.:)

I owe Barlaycard £6000 since nearly six years. In 2004 i became permanently disabled and i agreed to a token payment of £1 per month. This increased to £10 in 2007 and i always paid it. Yesterday i was so surprised when i found out Barclays had taken out £67.72 although i had paid the £10 on the 10th of December. I called Barlays and after over an hour of talking to incompetent Indian agents they finally put me through to Barlaycard debt department. To my horror the guy told me Barclays has sold the debt to Cabot Financial. I have not had a letter from Barclaycard or Cabot.I would have agreed to a higher payment. By scanning my statements i found out, i have missed the November payment. I can't really believe i missed this payment as i have set up all monthly payments online in advance for a year. This is the only payment i have ever missed.

Anyway, the guy told me, i need to get in touch with Cabot. As i said, i didn't even get a letter. What should i do now? This thing has absolutely ruined my Christmas and i can't think of anything else at the moment. I always knew, i have to pay back finally, why didn't they talk to me? The guy finally told me Barclays will pay back the £67 taken out of my account and it will be back in my account early January.

I'm living off income support and middle rate DLA which comes to £198 the week.I'm living alone with my dog in a council flat. How much can they take off me? I'm sick with worry and can't understand why they couldn't even send me a letter. Maybe it's still in the post because of the Royal Mail backlog.

I don't have any other debts and pay my bills on time.

Please could anyone tell me what to do next? Should i call Cabot or go to Barclays on Wednesday?

  • Lisa all I can say is do not worry! That is easy for anyone ealse but I have been in your position and made myself very poorly it, but it is not the end of the world. The only advice I think anyone would give you is: In the New Year go and speak to CAB, they are brilliant and they will deal with this for you. The Other option is telephone the National Debt Helpline, and they may well put your mind at rest over the telephone, sometimes that is a massive help. Pleas try to enjoy not to worry.

Have a nice day today with your lovely little dog.:D

    Tilly xx

  • Many thanks for your quick answer Tilly. Happy Christmas to you as well. I will speak to The CAB after holidays.

    Hiya again,

After i have heard nothing since Christmas, i have now received a letter from Barclaycard and Apex. They are saying, Apex has now purchased the debt. They say they 'will honour' my arrangement of £10 monthly until June when they will review it again.:(

They are asking me to call Apex or log in with a provided username and password. So i have now logged in and they are asking me for a payment but i can't see my name, details or anything about my account there. Should i just pay in £10 and fill in my details?

I have paid Barclays £10 on the tenth of this month but cancelled all future payments.

By the way, i really got back the £67 something Barclays took out of my account on New Years Eve.
