I'm not sure that's the case. A lot of benefits like JSA won't pay if you have resigned/been sacked as far as I know.
Well what normally happens is you get awarded JSA (£51.85 or £65.45 if your aged 25 or over £65.45, so know where near £185 a week) but they automatically write to your last enployer to check why you left. If your resigned or were sacked, then they will sanction you, i.e stop your money for up to 6 months. That can take a few weeks so you may get 2-4 weeks money before its stopped.

People are normally still entittled to claim housing benefit regardless if they are sacked or not, but you cannot claim housing benefits if you live with your parents and pay rent to them. So basically in your circumstances you would not get any benefits, so if you quit/get sacked (unless your employer agrees to say that it was just temp work and its come to an end) you'd support yourself/live off the parents for six months.
  • Just an update.

I had sent the forms off about 3 weeks ago but have yet to hear anything.

    Is this good or bad?
  • I Dont know, I think it can take a while to set up a ipa maybe some one else knows. i also had letter for early discharge before christmas and have not yet heard anything but i think it can take a while even if you get it, which is not a certainty by any means from what I have read on here. Not sure if many people get it any more due to staff cuts etc. Maybe someone who knows more about it all can help.
  • Just an update.

Im finally dischared according to the insolvency website.

Now just need to find out how to get a certificate and then send copies to the credit refrence agencies.

Congrats plumber2009, to get your discharge certs, see this http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/courtfinder/forms/LOC013_form.pdf
  • Congratulations on the discharge. Must be a huge weight off your mind.
  • Well done. I take it you found out from website and have not got a letter? I filled in forms for ED about the same time as you but have heard nothing and still showing as br on website. Do they updare website first or do you get a letter?
Will just have to wait and see if I get, knowing my luck though, I think I know the answer!

    Q. What should i do?
    a. Ignore the forms and not send off
    b. Get sacked from my job and then get a new job after discharge
c fill out the forms ( I feel i will end up with a 3 year ipa which i wish to avoid at all costs.)

Whatever you do, you gotta consider the consequences, keep the job, pay 70% (I think) of your excess income for 3 years. I'm sure there are many moralistic views to be heard but there's also the straight forward, "what's best for me" view. The only view that matters. Your creditors don't start their strategy meetings with statements like, "to hell with profits and our dividends, what's best for our customers".

I was unemployed through all of my BR, I got a job a couple of months after discharge, I don't have to pay anything extra to my creditors. They aint happy, I am.

My desire to find a new job was in no way influenced by my BR discharge status. :D
