in Cutting tax
Hello
I have a job since 9th of December 2010, it is my first job in the United Kingdom, As I'm not from United Kingdom.
I have been put on 647L w1/M1 tax code. Is that tax code right?
Thanks in advance:j

If you are going to claim the remittance basis for 2010/11 this code will leave you owing tax.0

Thanks! But now i'm afraid:o
then how could I do to change this situation? until June 2010 I lived and worked in Italy regularly paid my taxes there.
So that means I'll have to pay taxes for it here too? Sorry for the questions but I am English and I can not understand the system0 -

Do you seriously think that this answer is going to help the majority of people who come here looking for advice ?
The OP has explained that they are not from this country and so obviously are un-sure of the tax matters.
Responses such as this one are not helpful in any way !
To the un-trained novice it means nothing !The loopy one has gone :j0 -

Have you actually read the posts? So what country are you from/in? OP actually states they are English and don't understand the system.
YEAH RIGHT0 -
Post 1 says not from UK, post 2 says English? Doesn't make sense but of no odds really.
647L is probably the right tax code but being on WK1/MONTH1 means you would normally overpay tax. As you were resident in Italy/are perhaps from somewhere else you might have to consider the tax rules there too. Not really enough info but you probably won't be able to get Italian tax advice here.0 -
Thanks for the replys. I'm non from uk and all this is new for me!
The tax return for 2010-11 should I had sent in October 2010 or October 2011?

for 'normal' UK based people:
if you are an employed person (and you seem to be) then in general you do not need to get a tax form and you will not in general be sent one.
your tax code is incorrect; it ought to be 647L (i.e. without the wk1 stuff)
however I do not know how your earnings overseas affect UK taxation so you ought to phone HMRC and explain your situation.0 -

YEAH RIGHT
:rotfl:and you have the cheek to ask me if i have read the posts !!!
:rotfl:if YOU had read them correctly then you would have noticed that the OP clearly stated they were not from the UK!
DONT YOU JUST HATE IT WHEN YOU TRY TO BE SARCASTIC AND FAIL MISERABLY LOL:rotfl:The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Sadly UK tax is complicated for non-UK domiciliaries. It would be fantastic if the government would simplify this.
This question is from an Italian citizen who has just moved to the UK.
We know from the context that the question is being asked by someone who is unlikely to be UK domiciled (probably Italian domiciled) and who has been working outside of the UK in the first part of the 2010/11 tax year.
If we assume that the intention is to remain in the UK for at least 2 years from the arrival date then - under current HMRC paractice - the questioner will be resident in the UK from the arrival date.
To qualify for a personal allowance however the questioner would need to declare worldwide income on a UK tax return form. (This is on the assumption that non-UK income from 6 April 2010 to the date of arrival was at least £2,000.)
Once the tax return has been completed - after 5 April 2011 - the questioner will then know whether or not the PAYE withholding was correct - depending on how s/he self-assesses her/his residence, ordinary residence and domicile.0 -
Cook_County Thanks for your reply!
But that means that i should seend my tax return for 2010-11 after 5 april 2011. Because i see on hmrc deadlines-penalties site that the paper tax return, it must reach HMRC by midnight on 31 October 2010! i'm a little confuse
Thanks for your time,I really appreciate all this information!0
