Travel Insurance - medical condition

I'm looking for annual travel insurance and will need to declare an existing medical condition - hypertension (I'm in my early 60s). However, after treatment (medication and diet) over the last 9 months the condition is now well under control and my GP is quite happy with my BP now.

I'm wondering if insurance companies will still load my premium for this, even if I insist that while it is a pre existing condition it is no longer a problem.

Any views?

Any suggestions of companies who might take a more informed view rather than just assign a black mark?

Thanks for any feedback.

The fact that it's a pre existing condition will count as such, they won't take anyone's word that it is no longer a problem, as it's not been cured it's counted!

You should find someone to insure you but do expect a higher charge.

this site is brill, came in at £76 for my 3 conditions, £20 less than my cheapest quote & that includes cover for my heart condition.

  • I tried Freedom and got a quote that I thought on the high side (two conditions, BP and Chol), just over £200.

Eventually went with Direct Travel (http://www.direct-travel.co.uk/) who I've used before, at £172 for world wide annual cover for self and wife.

Interesting, when I spoke to them, they told me that I had the option of taking their standard insurance (about £105) and that it would still cover me for everything except anything related to those conditions - I could choose to take the risk. I didn't, but at least it gave me the choice.
