Bathroom advice

Just moved into a new house and we need a new bathroom. I have had 5 quotes all for labour/materials and tiling (not including sanitaryware or tiles as I can't decide what products I want at this stage). But whoever I use they will supply santaryware as well and this has been reflected in there quote. I have gone to showrooms as I have found that individual tradesman are hard to find and I have been let down as they don't turn up! Also my friend has just had her bathroom done by individual tradesman and it turned into 4 weeks of total mayhem due to timings!

The job is:

Remove old toilet,sink,bath and shower+cubicle
Refit new bath, sink, toilet and shower+cubicle (bath needs to be re-located)
Remove all tiles
Replaster and 1/2 tile bathroom (18sq meters)
Replaster ceiling and fit extractor and 1 x light fitting
Re-hang the internal door
Make good the floor ready for vinyl
Fit mirror. towel rail etc
Fit towel radiator
Decorate and paint (I will supply paint)

My bathroom is 2.7 x 2.7 meters

Quotes so far £3300 £ 3400 £ 5500 £ 6600 exc VAT. It is quite varied!

Product range I cant decide... help!

Shower enclosure will be a 1200 x 900 offset quad... but do I go for clearshield glass, 5/6/8mm glass.

Is Kudos any good (clearshield comes as standard on the original range but the glass is only 5mm)

Merlyn budget range is 6mm glass and no clearshield glass

Merlyn 8 range which 8 mm which has clearshield

The Kudos and Merlyn 8 are about the same price.

Then there is the bath ...

I have seen a carron bath that I like (status 1700 x 800) but do I go for the acrylic or carronite? Is it worth paying the extra for?

I have two children who love the bath and play in it for ages and I enjoy the bath too. We are all quite tall people! We will have a seperate shower enclosure with Aqualisa Hiqu(hubby prefers!)

Any advise appreciated. Thanks

The lower quotes look around the right mark, if you are supplying the more expensive materials.

The last bathroom we did, of similar dimensions, came in around £3,500, including new false ceiling and halogens.

If it's all done by one contractor it should take around 7/8 days from beginning to end.

Nothing wrong with acyrlic baths provided they are fitted correctly.

Personally I would go for 6mm glass on the shower.

    Hope this helps
