Why are DAB tuners (separate) so expensive?

I've been looking into separate DAB tuners on a couple of websites, but am amazed at the prices.
It seems decent separate DAB tuners cost around 200+ pounds!
Why is such a basic piece of kit (it's just a radio...) so expensive?!
Am somewhat baffled....

I don't understand why you are considering such a low quality source.0 -
Me either. DAB could well get scrapped entirely so doesn't seem worth spending much money on IMO. The better DAB+ using AAC audio are what you should be looking at."In that case, I wish you a Merry Christmas sir!" ...same to you.

With DAB money meant they tried to cram far too many stations into the available signal spectrum so the quality is crap.
The current audio quality on DAB using Mp2 audio is terrible because of the low bitrate used of about 128kbps which gives poor quality.
If you want a DAB radio, make sure it's DAB+ compatible.

@ A.Penny.Saved - I like the description of BS.1116 where MP2 never quite reaches the dizzy heights of "perceptible, but not annoying" impairment !0
