N Power gas price split
Options
I have just got my duel fuel bill from n power.
I know of the price increases to come in January but this bill has changes made to the cost split. On my previous bill the first 103 kWh were at 7.366p but this latest bill it is the first 1735 kWh at 7.366p.
This has added £90 to the bill. Can they do this without notifying me.

Hi. I am not sure if you are getting a monthly or quarterly bill.. but the answer is Yes they can.
Npower allocates a significantly higher allowance to Tier 1 (i.e. the more expensive part) over the winter months and virtually none over the summer months... so if you are low/ moderate user, there is a high chance that most/all of your bills will be based on the Tier 1 rate.
I had a shock when i moved into a new property in Dec last year which the previous tenants used Npower. The rates looked good and I thought I could stay with them without realising this NON uniform allocation of Tier 1 over the year... After receiving my first bill in Feb this year, I switched off all my gas supply and switched to another provider!
PS - these allocations are set in advanced and all in the welcome pack (at the back of the letter which is very "obvious" (not))0 -
Even if they put it in big bolg type on the front page of the welcome letter most people still wouldn't understand which I guess is one of the main problems with power suppliers, they've establish a confusopoly so people don't switch because they frankly have no idea if they would benefit.Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0

I've only just found this out and it came as a big shock. I had a bill at the lower rate, gave them a reading and they recalculated it all at the higher rate.
My gas is now working out at about a pound a day and I only have the heating on for 3 hours a week plus two or three baths a week. The rest is washing up, washing hands and my hot water bottle. I'm seriously tempted just to switch off my gas and wash up in cold water.0 -

Most gas suppliers do a similar thing. They charge more for the primary units used during peak periods, similar to the breakdown below:
January 882 units
February 882
March 272
April 271
May 46
June 46
July 46
August 46
September 46
October 271
November 882
December 882
After which they charge the secondary price for units used thereafter. If you want to go fast, go alone
