    It will have been mentioned in the original T&C's which you agreed to when you signed up with them.

    The applicable T&Cs from Orange;

    12. responsibility for the equipment

    12.1 The Equipment remain our property and is only provided to you on loan. You will be responsible to us for any damage to or loss of the Equipment or the Livebox from the moment the Equipment or the Livebox is delivered to you.

    12.2 If you do return the Equipment, you shall return it to us in the prepaid returns envelope provided. If you fail to return the Equipment to us when it is faulty or the Agreements have terminated or you damage the Equipment, we reserve the right to charge you the full replacement cost for such Equipment unless you can provide us with actual proof of postage. If we collect the Equipment, it shall be entitled to charge you for the direct costs of so doing.

    Sorry to say that you were told - everyone has to accept the standard terms and conditions when they sign up which clearly states about ownership of the router.

    By accepting the contract, legally you have been 'made aware'. The fact that you didn't read the terms and conditions properly is your problem I'm afraid :(

    Even if the box was broken or damaged you should not have thrown it away, but returned it to Orange. So you are liable for the £100 fine I'm afraid.
    If you had damaged the box and not thrown it you could possibly have claimed the £100 to pay Orange from your home insurance if it covered accidental damage.

    £100 for a rubbishy Horange router???
    As already suggested, just send them one from eBay, working or not. It's most unlikely that they will cross check against the original serial number.

    What a silly policy- glad im not with Orange!.Most others will let the router etc be your property at the end of the contract.Best of luck for getting a cheapie replacement from ebay.
