Will my car insurance go up if I change from Student -> Part/full-time job?

Hi,
I've recently left college and took up a part time job as a Fitness Instructor at Northumbria University but have yet to tell my insurer as I am on a students policy and when I went to change my car when I was looking to buy one they said i'd have to start a NEW policy... meaning I would lose 8 months worth of driving!? All because it was ONE insurance group higher.
Now i'm starting to get worried about changing my job title incase they say the same thing!?
I've already paid £1,700! I can't afford to start a new policy with only 1 NCB!?
Any helpful advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Liam. :T

Why do you have to change policy? Are the existing insurers saying that they will not cover you on your new vehicle?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Yea they said:Why do you have to change policy? Are the existing insurers saying that they will not cover you on your new vehicle?
"Becuase you are on a student policy we cannot sure the car you want as it's 1 insurance group higher - If you did want that car you would have to start a new (non-student) policy... losing your 8 months current driving but keeping your 1NCB from your previous year - To compensate we will discount the price of 4 months from your current policy from the new one (£400
)"
NB:
Just to add, I don't actually own the new vehicle yet, and obviously won't buy it if my insurer won't insure me.0 -
I would just leave it as it is, let the current policy end, get a new car then summit your new employment status on renewal. I once had a write off fault claim 4 years ago, insurer never ask for any proof regarding my current job status etc.0

think that's what i'm going to end up doing. Yes it's wrong but am I hell losing 8 months + £1,700 just to change my job title on a bit of paper.I would just leave it as it is, let the current policy end, get a new car then summit your new employment status on renewal. I once had a write off fault claim 4 years ago, insurer never ask for any proof regarding my current job status etc.
And no, my use of the car hasn't changed at all due to change, i don't use it for work and less than 3,000 miles a year0 -
You'll be fine, dont worry about it. If you work 16 hours or more a week that is classed as full time, full time is cheaper to insure so bare that in mind. If your hours are around borderline 16hours per week depending on shifts then I would put down full time, this will save you a lot of cash. Do a dummy quote (with made up details ie not real name and phone no.) on this and u will see the difference.0
