Ipod Nano questions

My sister has bought my nephew an Ipod Nano for christmas but is concerned about the time taken to convert and download from CD's to the device - my neice has already got one.....
I have been told by her that it takes on average 10 minutes per track - which to me seems ridiculous - I have suggested that she tries Format Factory to convert the CD to MP3 - Can anyone suggest the reason for the time taken ?

By far the recommended way to administer an Apple Ipod of any type is via iTunes. The ipod will have come with an installation disk for iTunes otherwise download it http://www.apple.com/itunes/?cid=OAS-US-DOMAINS-itunes.com
Then you can very easily import CDs. You are not obliged to buy anything from the iTunes store if you don't want to.0 -
I use CDex - very quick. It converts to a range of formats and then the music can be kept on the PC and loaded onto iTunes. The iTunes format is not compatible with others and so burning discs for personal use (I use them in the car) is problematic.
I convert to mp3 or wav and then load.
Whichever system you use be sure to back up regularly.0 -
Windows Media Player also does very well. Converts to MP3There are 10 kinds of people that understand binary
Those that do
Those that dont

OP has bought an Apple iPod, its designed to work with iTunes available as a free download.
Why would you want/need to use 3rd party software for managing the pod? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

It is my sisters family with the problem
I understand that they are using itunes - but it is taking too long to encode the CD tracks and I was suggesting alternatives !!0 -

How old is their PC?
Is their PC loaded with spyware and various other crapware that's slowing it down?
Are they ripping CDs that are scratched / damaged?
I don't see Itunes being the problem here; they'll likely get the same results from any ripping programHope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -
I suggest your sister takes a look at the the format she is ripping the CDs too. She may have it set to a high bit rate. You can find the format and bit rate once you put the cd in and then click on import options or something similar.0

Maybe your ipod is a fake.
I just bought one from a guy on ebay under the description 'unwanted christmas present'. I think he did not know it was fake. But this is our second ipod nano and we soon spotted that it did not behave properly. We took it to the local Apple Store and just by looking at it they could tell it was fake. It was marked as model 16GB-FM, but Apple do not make such a model. The USB and headphone ports were labelled (but Apple do not actually provide such labels). The serial number turned out to have been copied from a 2nd generation unit.
So the thing is not a genuine Apple product. Actually its fine as a sophisticated MP3 player with camera and video; but when you pay extra for the Apple brand, that's not much comfort.
So before trying to install non-Apple software, you might want to first try registering your unit at the Apple website and see if looks OK.
Good Luck!
