Nikon lense replacement

Don’t know if I'm posting this in the right place (if not, please feel free to move).
I took my Nikon D50 back to Jessops today because the lense I got with it won't auto-focus (it just zooms in & out). The chap in the shop agreed that there was a problem with it. The camera is all well under warranty & when I asked if I could get it back before Saturday, as I'm off to London for the day, I was told it would be approx 4 WEEKS until it would be returned!
I asked if I could either borrow a replacement lense or alternatively, if they could lend me a. n. other camera (just a point & shoot would do) but I was told that wasn’t possible. I now posses a £400 camera which I can’t use!
Where do I stand legally on this one? I left the lense with them as I need to get it fixed, but I am not a happy bunny about having to go without for so long.
Any suggestions?
