Hair salon have cut my hair too short. What are my rights?

I've been for a trim today just to tidy up my hair before I get married on New Year's Eve and the hairdresser has took approximately three inches of my hair. It didn't look too bad when I was in the shop as the mirror was pointing down which made my hair look like it was longer than it actually is now.
When I got home I looked in the mirror and realised that she'd actually given me more than just a trim and she's cut one side shorter than the other. The stylist was well aware of what I asked for as she was told during the consultation.
I'm really angry and hurt at what she's done. I have one week until my wedding and I'm devastated. Could someone please tell me what my rights are as I don't want to leave this.I know my hair will grow back eventually, but that's beside the point.
Thank you

I think the hair growing back is the point to be honest, as it will, so there's no real issue that can be solved, what did the hairdresser say when you contacted them about this?0 -

This is a pet hate of mines, "yeah I'd like a trim please" 2 hours later you're bald and minus £35.
If you go to a shop and ask for 6 apples, you'd expect 6 apples. Not to be given 4 and asked to pay for 6.
It got to the stage with me I'd dread going to the hairdresser.
Your best bet is to go back, ask to speak to a manager and explain that you're getting married, you only asked for a trim and you really aren't happy with what you have, most decent salons, in my experience, are good enough to offer to fix it, and obviously if you don't want it cut again before wedding, ask if you can use the free treatment later on in the year. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

how much is a trim ? could you quantify that ...

Well I usually say a trim, about half an inch? and the stylist agrees or disagrees, i.e I think your hair might need about an inch and a half, I always make sure we agree now before it's done.
I'd agree with that, you really need to say at the time but I appreciate it's hard, I've been fighting back tears in the hairdresser chair. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
wear a hat... train a woodland creature to sleep on your head... make a hairpiece out of Brian Mays discarded hair..
Dont say yes when they ask if it is ok...
it would seem you get what you pay for... peanuts =0 -
Believe me, your big day won't be ruined because of a haircut if you and your fiancee are in love. There will be all kinds of !!!!-ups along the way, learn to roll with them as getting furious will not help and will only make you ill!
If the hair is a massive deal to you, you could look at getting a wig for the photos, or wearing a veil, or tiara, or flowers, or alice band, or some other distraction or disguise, but if you learn to laugh it off, you'll be easier and more relaxed in your photos, which will come across far more than a zealous trim will :-)0 -
I'm sorry but I too would be damned annoyed if I had wonky hair a week before my wedding!
Have you spoke to the hairdressers where you had it done? If you ring them and explain to them that it shorter than you wanted and that its wonky they will ask you to go back in to have a look at it..they may be able to even it out which will in turn will make it shorter though. If its a drastic change to your appearance then yes I would be looking for them to 'fix' it..via extensions or clip in hair pieces or whatever.
You plan for a big day for so long, you have the pic in your head of what it/you will be like and then to have it changed at the last hurdle by a incompetent hairdresser can take the shine off the day!She has the loaded handbag of someone who camps out and seldom goes home, or who imagines life must be full of emergencies..0 -
If you complain, they might give you the brush off."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

When I'm at the hair dresser's I always keep an eye on what they are doing and if they are taking off too much, then I ask them to stop. I stay alert because I don't want to walk round looking like an idiot (well more of an idiot than I do already). Anyway, my point is that considering the OP has their wedding in a couple of weeks, I would have thought they would have been even more vigilent and not just let the hairdresser carry on without constantly checking.
I'm sure the hairdresser will be accommodating if the OP returns and explains what has happened; however as they already know, there isn't a lot they can do about it. If this is the worst thing that goes wrong with the wedding, then you are surely blessed.
Edit - A friend of ours found out she had cancer before her wedding and began losing her hair. I'm sure she would have swapped places with the OP without any hesitation and so sometimes, its good to look at the things we've got and not what we haven't got.
