Hi,
we had a problem with our toilet, once flushed it continued to release water. This was reported to our LA on the 12th october, they sent a plumber out and he fixed it, but recommeded that a part gets changed. A few weeks later the fault re-occured and we reported it again.
We have continuely been chasing the LA but the only response we get is that the LL is refusing the quote for the work or won't reply.
What is the next step as this is really annoying!

Out of curiosity, what was the part that needed replacing? I have the same problem, but I managed to fix it by moving the lid off to the left a bit. It's not ideal, but the guy my LL gave me to fix it seems to always have an excuse as to why he can't make it. It's now started making a horrible hissing sound but doesn't leak water anymore.0 -
Artful offers you good advice as always, but can I re-iterate......

normally if you take the lid off the cistern it should be fairly obvious why the flush continues. The water is meant to push up a float attached to a lever arm, which when high enough seals the inlet valve. So normally either the float is bust, the lever arm is bust, or the valve is not sealing.
environmental health aren't going to be interested in this unless it makes the toilet impossible to flush and is the only toilet in the house.
as artful says, follow the guide laid out by shelter to get it fixed yourself if you like. Just for background the method they recommend was established in Lee Parker vs Izzet 1971, so you can google that for a bit of historical context.0 -

not sure to be honest, it's a new build and the toilet flush stuff is all sealed up, not like you average toilet where you lift the lid up!0 -
Thanks for the advice, i'll get a letter drafted up.0

Hmmm. Not convinced. That would cause the cistern to continue to refill and eventually cause excess water down the overflow. It would not cause the flush to continue.
you're right, I was thinking of something different.0 -
all fixed now, thanks for the help. Next time i will get the writing pad out!0
