saw a tip on the money saving board to check that E7 is working,the electrics in my rented house are ancient and have expensive heating, have my doubts as to efficiency of E7 so how do I check it please?

    Do you know where your meter is? Can you see how to tell whether the switch is on the "low" or "normal"? Basically it's just a matter of checking that the meter is correctly recording all your night (I think the hours are between 11.30pm and 6.30am) useage correctly at "low" rate.
    If you can't tell how the switch works, take a meter reading early in the morning, then one last thing at night, and check it's the "normal" reading that's increased, then take another reading the next morning, and check that the "low" has gone up and the "normal" not much at all.
    And obviously if you you do have E7 electricity, if you set your washing machine or anything else running at night, it will be cheaper than during the day.
    Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
