Capital One

Hello, Im new to this site but enjoying all the info!

I wonder might you help?

I have a capital one classic card, with £600 limit and an EXTORTIONATE rate of interest. I used it to place a small wager on a football match a few weeks ago [much to the wifes dismay] and i notice that it has come out as a cash advance, not a payment.

Is this allowed?

    Yes it's correct, gambling transcations are treated as cash advances as you aren't actually buying anything.

    I used it for one £5 bet! I hardly have a problem,

    The only other time I have GAMBLED in the last year was on the Grand National, and even that was just a works sweepstake!

    So please keep your snarky comments to yourself.

    I used the card because my debit card was expired and a friend was showing me how an online gambling site worked.

    You'll get plenty of sanctimonious comments like that, best just to ignore them. Yeah gambling sites get treated like cash, at least it was only a fiver and you will know not to place bets with a credit card again.
    There's no sense crying over every mistake.
    You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

    According to your T&Cs it is...
    'cash withdrawal' means...a transaction where payment is made to an establishment that is identifiable as carrying on gambling and the purpose of the transaction is payment for gambling activity;

    Did you win (more than your outlay of £8 plus the circa 34.9% interest being charged until you clear the balance)?

    Mate you have to remember on this forum you are not allowed to smoke,gamble,drink,buy a car,go out for a meal,go night clubbing,or buy christmas presents.
    I am surprised someone aint told you to go to the DFW board after your £5 bet.
    This is only a few members on this board who think this by the way not the entire forum.
