send domain email over google smtp?

hi there
i have setup a gmail account so i can send emails from my own
domain name as my isp block me sending over their server.
when i send emails over gmail server (using thunderbird) , in the from field it give my gmail email address not my domain address, is there any way of changing this, so my domain name appears in the from field
i have set my reply to email address as my domain for now .

use a free google apps account for your custom email, prob will be better and easier.0
