Hi all,

I'm having a really tough time with Northern and Shell. I called them on 31/12 to ask if it had been identified and was told by my contact that she doesn't think I've won anything. I got the impression she couldn't be bothered if I'm honest. I explained it is highly likely that I had won something as I do enter their text comps and I have a compliments slip saying 'well done!'.

I've emailed her my name, entry address, the Special Delivery reference and a photo of the compliments slip to my contact there so that they can identify the handwriting and signature. I've even offered to compile a list of their competitions I've entered... even if it would take me a ridiculous amount of time to do so.

I sent this info over on 31/12 and asked for an update on 5/1 but am yet to receive a response.

Any suggestions to where I go from here?

Thanks.

Northern and Shell are a HUGE company so I imagine its easy for someone to pretty much ignore you! I'd say contact the same person again, and if that doesn't work, call and ask to speak to the Head of Marketing. I've been to their HQ and found their receptionists rather rude :P Hope you manage to get it sorted!

Thanks.

I've just sent the email to those two people. If I don't receive a response by Tuesday I will call and ask for the head of marketing and perhaps send a formal letter by recorded delivery.

Hi all.

This is yet to be resolved. The two people looking into it for me continue to pass me from one to the other and neither of them really seem to care or want to put any effort in. It has been a month now.

I've read the following in the Comping Guide. Do you think I should go down this route now?

The Institute of Promotional Marketing complaints@isp.org.uk lay down the guidelines which comp organisors must follow. MSE Compers have reported that they are very good at investigating dodgy comps & missing prizes with one chap in particular Edwin Mutton, being an absolute star.

Thanks

I went through the ISP last year and they passed me over to the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority). They were very helpful to me when I won a pre-paid Visa Card last year. Visa sent it to the wrong person and I spent months chasing them around with promises that it would be "in the post" that week. As soon as the ASA got involved, the Card arrived within a week and they'd upped the prize from £50 to £100. I highly recommend contacting them. The person I dealt with was Carly Bacon carlyb@asa.org.uk - Direct Line 020 7492 2116.

Thanks very much. I will email her now.

Do you think I should warn them that I have contacted this organisation? Perhaps it will give them a much needed kick up the backside! :rotfl:

Without knowing which competition you have won, there's not much anyone can do. I am afraid you will have to persist with the Northern Shell group to find out what you won and when.

The ISP are now the IPM and can help you once you at least know that you've won something and what it is! :p
Best wins: Luxury weekend in Russia, family holiday to France, catered BBQ for 20, Selfridges shopping spree, jolly to Majorca, £1,000 See Tickets vouchers, £500 John Lewis vouchers, five-star weekend in Provence!

Well on their website it says you can ask for winner information for a particular competetion. If this is the case, they should be able to produce a list of winners for all competitions. Their website however does not offer this as an option for information that can be requested.

Could one of these authorities not go down that route?
