OH wants to stop smoking in the new year (no point starting before with the alcohol thats goingtobe flowing) and I may join him, we've tried before using the gum and just willpower, and failed miserably
I've heard about a tablet which just stops your cravings? Does it actually exist? How effective is it??
What aids have you found to be the best?
we're not really heavy smokers, smoke about the same, 25g will last about 3 days ish

The tablets are Champix and I quit three years ago on them and have never looked back
BUT they arent without risk and they arent for everyone
The general side effects are pretty nasty so to put yourself through that you really do need to be motivated - lots of people stop taking the tablets after a few days because they cant cope with them
And there are the stories of suicides in those that have taken them.
Do go along and see you GP or practice nurse. They are there to talk through the different options and prescribe what's best for you.Just cos one option might not work , dont give up, go back and try another.0 -
I gave up with willpower and the fact that i just couldn't afford them. 10 years this feb :j
But my mum a smoker for most of her life, now 58 she had a cholestrol scare and found hypnotherapy worked for her as she has tried...well lost count over the years and nothing has worked for her, until now.

Hubby gave up over 25 years ago and I carried on and on and on.......he rarely nagged but encouraged me only............before I stopped I was smoking a lot and my chest was wheezie and I was breathless and hubby said I would stop breathing in my sleep:eek:.
I had tried the anti-smoking course at my Doctors surgery and the chewing gum only long ago then more recently I went to classes but still smoked during this course:mad:.
Serious illness with a month stay in Hospital done it for me. My chest was clear my breathing was so good that I never wanted to feel like I did when I smoked. I still had a few minor cravings in the 1st year but time has erased all cravings. It is over 3 years now with my daughter following suit months after me and still smoke free too. The success is truley wonderful, hope you make it too.so so worth it. Dianne0 -
These are good and they work.http://www.google.co.uk/products?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&q=nicobrevin&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=VqMTTd-1M8qwhQep2Li4Dg&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=3&ved=0CDoQrQQwAg
My sister took these, the morning after the first dose she did not even think about or want a cigarette. She has been stopped 8 years now.0 -
Honestly, the most moneysaving way to give up is to really want to not smoke anymore. The GP should be able to provide something to ease any discomfort (physical or emotional), but nothing works unless you actually have decided you want to stop, not that you ought to.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

The problem is Im not 100% sure I do want to give up, but OH doing it will give me a kick up the ar*se
I really really should, im only 20 (been smoking 2 years) and get out of breath quite easily, compared to being quite fit previously
TBH the best way for me to give up is to get pregnant (I would NOT smoke when pregnant, no matter how much I wanted to), but thats not an idea im ready to consider yet!!! lmao
Its not really for the money saving, tho its a plus, I can afford to smoke, I just want to for my health, but kinda enjoy smoking at the same time.
Amersall are they avaliable on prescription?I'm not a bloke! :rotfl:My real name is Sinead, Sid is my nickname :rotfl:0 -
