I think the most effective way to give up is to get your last cigarette and kiss it goodbye, dont smoke it, if you wish put it in a frame marked "My Last Cigarette" with the date underneath, and resist the urge to touch it. If you can manage just a week of those cravings by keeping yourself occupied, your already half way there.
Over time you will look at that cigarette to remind yourself of a nasty habit you once had. You will notice the smell of those who do smoke, their clothes, their house. car etc. That will be more than enough to convince you to stay off them.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

The Smoker’s Vow
To be said just before taking your first puff after
having quit for any appreciable period of time<B>With this puff I enslave myself
to a lifetime of addiction.
While I can’t promise to always love you,
I do promise to obey every craving and
support my addiction to you
no matter how expensive you become.
I will let no husband or wife,
no family member or friend,
no doctor or any other health professional,
no employer or government policy,
no burns or no stench,
no cough or raspy voice,
no cancer or emphysema,
no heart attack or stroke,
no threat of loss of life or limbs,
come between us.
I will smoke you forever
from this day forth,
for better or worse,
whether richer or poorer,
in sickness and in health,
till death do us part!
“You may now light the cigarette.”
“I now pronounce you a full-fledged smoker.”Postscript: While 1 in 2 marriages end in divorce, the addiction to smoking will last a lifetime—albeit a shorter lifetime. Once a smoker, annulment of the addiction is impossible. One puff can result in a permanent relapse. Don’t take the chance of relapsing to this marriage of inconvenience.NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!

I read the alan carr book - didn't work!! tried zyban and was so dizzy I gave it up, patches fall off, inhaler ..yuck!...going to try champix next!0

I did it 6 years ago with patches and inhalator which I got on prescription through our surgery. This was the way I chose to do it after discussing it with the Smoking Cessation Advisor at the surgery.
They tell you all available options and aids and look at what type of smoker you are and when you reach for one etc.
I stuck to the plan 100% and didn't try and come off them too soon (which a lot of people do) and it worked for me.0 -

Simple - but exactly right.
I'd tried a few times and failed miserably.
But when my wife fell pregnant, I just didn't want to smoke anymore, and once that mental hurdle was crossed, giving up was the easiest thing in the world.
A couple of days of cravings that were much easier to ignore than before, and that was it.
15 years later, and now a much fitter person who cycles frequently (2000 miles this year - although still a big bloke!) I have no desire to have one again, and am a complete anti smoking nazi!
But it's true - if you WANT to give up, it's easy and cheap to do. If you don't, then it can be expensive, and doomed. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
