Why not buy her some really good thermal underwear, or some really thick fleeces from a charity shop and ask her to wear it when indoors as the two of you are very worried about the heating bills. If she's not contributing to the rent at the moment, that's the least she can do to play fair.0

My friend actually took the front of the dial off his mothers heating control and glued it back on so that it read as 3 degrees warmer than it was in order to save money, this worked till the service engineer came round and discovered what he had done........needless to say she was not impressed!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

Has she been checked for conditions that make people feel cold like Raynauds?
I suffer from that, and I noticed the comment about you sitting in a t-shirt and she walks in and says it is cold. When a Raynaud's sufferer gets chilled, it takes a long time for their body to warm back up again. There's a number of times here I've come back from walking my dogs and thought our house was cold, but my husband has reminded me that it's me that's cold and not the house.
I've now got a thermometer in the kitchen, and I know if the house temp is around 18°C and I feel chilly, then I need to warm myself up rather than turn the heating up.
Also take precautions to stop her getting chilled. I'm wearing lots of layers this weather, wearing thick socks and making sure I have gloves, hat etc., on before I leave the house. It's much easier to strip layers off if you get too warm, than get warmed up again if you get chilled. Here I go again on my own....0 -
People feel the cold much more if they are indoors doing nothing... When I was unwell in September I was sitting indoors with jumpers on and it was warm! If I'd been out and doing stuff I would not have felt the cold.
Have noticed this time of year that I feel the house is warm when I come back but it feels cooler if I stay in.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

Perhaps her room isnt heating as well as the rest of the house? We had a flatmate who kept the heat on its highest setting all the time and still complained of it being cold, it was because her radiator was full of air and she didnt think to bleed it.Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000

Is she wearing extra layers, I've currently got t-shirt, two jumpers and a fleece on. Our heating is low during the day, you don't need it higher when you're moving about alot0

ds2 and dh appear to be immune to cold and wander round with next to nothing on. me, I'm in my thermal underwear with various layers on top.garfield33 wrote: »I'm more boggled at the fact that the lounge can be so warm that I'm in a t-shirt, then she comes in, says "oh my god it's freezing in here" and pops an electric heater on. I am tempted to buy a room thermometer, but that may not be the best way to resolve things. Or refer her to a GP to see if she has hypothyroidism.
but you could suggest she is checked for thyroid problems.
slanket, already posted, could be a better answer. Why are people so selfish? if that was me I would just walk around the house with my duvet wrapped around me.
very true: when I first did the arm in we had heating on 24/7 because I wasn't sleeping. now down to all day but not at night.People feel the cold much more if they are indoors doing nothing... wheat bags also help warm you up, I'm often snuggled up with mine.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
To be fair to her, she does tend to go about in jumpers and warm clothes, and she is paying her own rent (thankfully we all have separate tenancies!)
When it started getting cold this year we checked and bled all the radiators (and I did it without having to get my dad’s help! Very proud), and the girl who had her room before her had never complained of the cold.
Slanket looks cool, but we have a couple throws in the lounge which she can use, money saving and all that!
At the risk of offending, I wonder if age is a factor? She’s a little older than me and the other girl (we’re 28, 30 and 45). From working in an open plan office, I've noticed that it does tend to be the more mature ladies who feel the cold first (not always - I am generalising).
I got back after the Christmas break last night to a toasty warm house, heating switched to permanently on, but she was holed up in her room. I just don’t see the point of heating up the whole house when you’re in one room most of the time! I think there may have to be a house meeting.
Becles – are there any other symptoms of Raynauds I could look out for?
Oh and janeawej – that is the funniest thing I’ve heard all day – genius!0 -
I have a slankiet and they are great, I am always cold OH and DS are not so I sit with that on and if I am really freezing I have a hot water bottle as well.0
