    In my experience it is not Muslims, Hindus, Jews or anyone else who is offended or embarassed by the use of Christian religious terms and phrases.

    It is white, middle class liberals who somehow think they are doing doing us all favour by omitting the word Christmas from every sign, notice or reference that they can. Other faiths really aren't bothered if the lights in the precinct spell out the word 'Christmas' or not, or if the Library sign says 'Christmas Opening Times' not 'Holiday opening Times'.

    I agree 100% and I should probably point out that I wasn't trying to blame other faiths in my OP.

    Im not a religious person so have no idea in these things, but isnt other religious festivals happening around this time as well?

    I know Uk is predominantly Christian, but Google is internationally recognised. So im guessing rather than concentrate on one religion its easier to choose something that caters for all people

    You may or may not have noticed that Google change their logo for a lot of other religous events - and they do it in a way that is recognisable to that faith.

    It probably comes down to the fact that whoever made the decision at google is not Christian.

    By the way the UK is described as a "post Christian" society now. How many people do you know that actually practice the faith they profess to have (or even profess to have one!).

    Here, here Trumpton.

    Do you know, I found it so refreshing whilst doing my christmas food shop on Wednesday night to see hindu/muslim families wandering around Tesco deciding what food they were going to have for christmas day. They don't have a problem with it, so why do 'those in authority' feel the need to interfere.

    I don't have any facts or figures to back up what I'm about to say. I may go off and look for some though! ;)

    I don't think we are a Christian society any more. I think we like to say we are when it suits us, but if it came down to it the vast majority would err on the side of athiesm. I was brought up R.C. in an R.C. Primary and Secondary School. Of all the people I know that I was brought up with only a handful still go to church. According to a survey (OK, I do have SOME facts!) only 1 in 10 people go to church every week.

    So is this just jealousy that other religions are faithful to their faith and so their holidays are linked as such? Say "Hanukkah" to me and I instantly think "Jew". Say "Christmas" I instantly think "stress". Christmas isn't about Jesus' birth to the majority of people any more, it's as simple as that.

    Looking over these boards it's much more about companies not delivering presents on time, not delivering them at all or making their employees work too many hours! :D

    I'm with mr_fishbulb, it's certainly more about things like "eating too much food and watching your nan get drunk".

    It wasn't about Christ before Christians and it certainly won't be when the religion fades away ... AND THE MUSLIMS TAKE OVER! (Daily Mail, that's my headline, hands off!) :rotfl:

    Finally - what does it matter what everyone else is calling the 25th of December and how they're celebrating it so long as, if you want to celebrate it as Jesus' Birthday, you can?! Idiot savant Karl Pilkington puts it perfectly;
    As long as you're rememberin' baby Jesus, does it matter when you're rememberin' 'im?

    TBH I havent noticed previous doodles but if thats the case that they have had ones that did religously regonise other events then I think they should have one for christmas to be equal.
