I bought an item on the 7th Dec, BIN, paid straight away obviously. It was marked as sent on 8th Dec, then on the 9th Dec I had this message from Ebay :
Dear ****
We're writing to let you know that the listing for the following item you bid on has been removed:
*****
If you haven't yet paid for this item, we strongly recommend that you do not complete this purchase. If the seller asks you to continue with the sale after the item has been ended by eBay, the item won't be covered by eBay buyer protection. Purchases completed outside of eBay are extremely risky and highly susceptible to fraud.
***If You Have Already Paid Using PayPal***
If you've paid for this item but haven't received it, please open a case in the Resolution Centre:
So I started a case, saying all the way through that I hadn't contacted the seller as Ebay had contacted me, and the case ended in my favour and they refunded my money.
Lo and behold, yesterday the item arrived.
So now I have the item and the refund.
Do I send the item back? But if so I would be out of pocket postage wise. It seems to be the genuine article, as I went out and bought another one after I got the email from Ebay.
ETA: I can't find the seller on ebay since the listing was removed.

The seller could have had the listing removed for any number of reasons. I would suggest that if you are happy to keep it, drop the seller an email and ask them to send you a manual payment request from Paypal.
Edit, just seen your edit.
The seller could have been NRU'd. You could try your deleted emails/messages to see if you can find the email address of the seller.0
