A couple of weeks ago I posted on a thread about Rapport where it was clear that the programme slowed down PC systems. My mothers' PC was incredibly slow and she was running Rapport.

Since then I have used logmein to remove Rapport and she now reports a much faster whizzy internet use. She's got lots of 'dire warnings' about uninstalling Rapport but, as her system is tighter than a duck's behind and she's very security aware, it should not be a problem. Think the warnings are just scare-mongering or an attempt at get-out clause for RBS.

Additionally I did a malware scan and there's no infected files found.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I just had a look at what Rapport is. It isn't AV software it seems from what they say about it that it must set up an SSH tunnel to your bank so you get end-to-end encryption preventing WiFi sniffing if inadvisedly using public or other unencrypted WiFi for your online banking. Possibly it has other security advantages too.

I'd expect it to maybe slow down the actual banking transactions a tad but wouldn't expect it to impact anything else. From what you've said either my expectations are wrong or it does something else as well.

I saw the A&L logo on their website so I'm guessing it must be the software I've been carefully refusing to install for the past year when using their online banking.

My bank says it is personal preference if the PC is secure anyway
  • I bet if you had your account details stolen off your computer and you had no AV or Firewall installed they would accuse you of being neglegent and making you fight for a refund!

Bit difficult to install it if you're a Linux (poss.also Apple) user, because you don't get the Rapport prompt.

Don't think you read the post properly:
as her system is tighter than a duck's behind and she's very security aware, it should not be a problem

Everything necessary is in place. No negligence on her part!

I agree, but the thing that bugs me and others is that the bank thinks it knows best.

    As you initial posts states,
an attempt at get-out clause for RBS.
