Hi Everyone
So with Windows Live Messenger 2011, quite a few problems came with it! A much bulkier version of messenger caused a lot of performance problem including slow down's and freezes quite commonly.
Well, if this is happening to you, here is your definitive guide to fixing it
Firstly, switch the main messenger window to compact view by clicking on your name from the main messenger window which bring up a drop down menu. From that select "use compact view".
Secondly, turn off the extended footer on your messenger window (this removes the flash adverts at the bottom, which cause big problems). To do this go to Tools > Options > Messages and uncheck the tickbox "Show Extended Footer on Message Windows"
Finally, close messenger (fully) and run the below:
http://apatch.org/files/index.php?ACT=dl&id=24
This is a patch that allows you to disable certain features. When you open it up, select "Remove Advertisements" (Both of them) and also remove other things you don't necessarily want, then click save.
Now re-open messenger and job done! No flash adverts anywhere causing freezes and crashes, and a much cleaner friendlier windows live messenger!
Hope this helps, if anyone has any questions let me know.

Why bother with Live Messenger anyway when you could have a lighter, faster open source utility that interfaces with WLM etc without any ads at all from the outset by using Pidgin? Download it here.My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -
I only have one problem with MSN and at somepoints it gets very laggy and slow. I just restart it and it's fine again...0

A-Patch has been around since 2004
It's a well used application in developer worlds (everyone at work has it).
If you create a virtual machine, run it, do some network monitoring and look at what traffic is going out, you'll notice no abnormalitiesIt does what it says!
Lokolo, that problem will be fully resolved if you follow the above steps[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I dont want to debate reasons to and not to use WLM.. The post is simply for people that use it and have the problem to resolve it easily
Yes there are other clients around that may even be better, though for most people, WLM is fine[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Yes but bothering to do that when it takes me 5seconds to press quit, and open once every few days is fine for me0 -

Personally I stick to Meebo, that way I don't have to install any bloated messenger clients on my computer (even Pidgin and aMSN are a ridiculously bloated 20MB or so), and can chat to my yahoo and google contacts as well as those on MSN. But back when I did use WLM, A-patch always served me well - removes the ads and the clutter, and makes it a little more bearable. It's a reputable patch, I wouldn't worry about it.poppy100
