I disagree it does not cost a lot to get married.

Yes I did it 11 years ago but our wedding cos us £32.50 on the day. My Dad had already died and Mom paid for the wedding cake which was just a 1 tier sponge (under £30), my new in laws paid for the lunch we went to after (only 9 of us to be fed as it was close family only) OH's brother took some pics for us. OH wore a suit he already had and as I was pregnant I wore a maternity suit. And the cars were our own and family's.

Its around the £80 mark now to give notice get married and pay for a certificate (ref direct.gov website). Getting married isn't about the party is it! Its about making a commitment to eachother, along with legally tying yourselves together for the the world to see. Its only today's materialistic society that had made a wedding such a expensive thing. There are many people who have got married in their lunch hour from work!

    Evening everyone :)

Had a bad bad day here today, woke up with stinking cold, sore throat and headache, went out to 2 flat tyres on my car which had nails in, waited 3 hours in the tyre place as they were so so busy but I had to get them done today otherwise can't get to work tomorrow, thats another £180 I don't have  had to put it on CC and I was doing so well, think I will have to pay some off with the ebay money I made this month.

Then OH decided to admit he has no money and cannot pay his half of bills this month. He runs his own business and is owed a lot of money but people are just not paying up, plus he needs to pay his tax bill on the 31st once I have done the tax return and I don't know where that money will come from. I can cover the bills - just but won't have anything left for food and petrol so that will have to go on CC, just when things were looking up, it never rains but it pours
    x

So sorry that you are having such a bad day. The stress my OH caused me with his own business used to kill me, so I know how your feeling. Can I just say if he doesnt pay the Tax on that day, he wont get shot and he can request a time to pay, he will pay more, but least your CC is not getting a bill that really doesnt belong on there. Been there done that, and BR'd. Hugs.
