Can I tell my computer to turn itself off?

I bought a timer plug cthinking that would work (battery only last about 10mins now!) but that just stays on even though its meant to cut out!
If the timer's battery lasts 10 minutes then it still has easily enough capacity for mains power to run through it. But if you have been in the habit of closing down by cutting the power, you may have damaged your machine. If you must shut down in a hurry, choose 'hibernate' instead. The power can also be cut on this setting, yet will start up intact on reconnection.0 -
Why don't you get something like logmein or gotomypc and remotely shut it down?0
