Which freesat box.

Options
Hi.

I currently have a hd ready tv in one room and an older flat screen tv in an adjoining room. I have a Sky sd freesat box on the new tele, freesat because we can't get Freeview at present.

I have a magic eye which is fitted to the sd box by a scart and the other part of the eye fitted to the other tele, again with a scart.

I've been looking at a Humax freesat box to replace the sd but i've read on the forums that the magic eye will not work with the Humax. Apparently because it does'nt have an RF out.

I see that other makers, Sagem, Goodmans etc make freesat boxes.
Does anyone know if my magic eye will work ok with another makers box.

I've also read that cables between the two can be used and something called a modulator can also be used. I was hoping to make use of the magic eye I've already got as it works perfectly.

Please can anyone out there help with the question as to which the next best hd box is and will it work with the magic eye, bearing in mind that it uses scart leads.

Thanks in anticipation and regards. Allen.

Your best bet would be to use your existing box with one TV and buy a Freesat or Freesat+ Box for the HD ready set.
All you will need to do is wire additional feeds from your dish's LNB, or possibly also upgrade it to a quad.

The only other box that will work with your magic eye would be a Sky+HD, you could probably find one on Fleebay.( But won't be able to record on it without a Sky sub.

We have switched from sky to a humax freesat box and I would says its ok rather than great. Sky box does everything a lot quicker and in a more efficient manner.

Having said that the humax one does do it all - just not as nippy and its saving me £20 a month so will stick with it.

Are you sure that it is a " Magic Eye " ? Unless things have changed recently a Sky Magic Eye was always connected via the RF2 connection via a co-ax connection to the 2nd TV.

Well spotted, the Sky device is usually referred to as a TV- Link.

  • Hi.

I've just checked. Its a Phillips wireless tv link transmitter and receiver. Each bit has power plug and scart lead fitted to it.

I've probably wrongly reffered to it as a magic eye.

Thanks for the advice so far. Regards. Allen.

Then it should work just fine with a Humax, or any other unit that has Scart Connectors, the confusion was caused by you referring to it as a Magic Eye, which it is not.
