When I used to send a lot of recorded deliveries for work purposes we had a lot of trouble with them not reaching their destinations. From the responses received from our normal mail this didn't seem to be the case with normal postage either.
  • I recently paid extra postage on an item so that it would be sent recorded delivery in order that I could track it. Postie just shoved it through my letterbox without even ringing the doorbell and attempting to obtain a signature. Not impressed. Complete waste of money.

you realise that the tracking doesnt tell you much if anything?
    it doesnt track en route
it tracks to tell you its been delivered, but then you know that?

If you have ever seen the inside of a sorting office then you understand how stuff goes "missing".

Years ago I saw mail mountains 10ft high. Thats prob half a million items in one heap.

Just posted the following on another thread, thought I would copy it here;-

    "I am not impressed.

Friday 10th December posted large letter at my local PO, (about half a mile away), by First Class Recorded Delivery, addressee is about half a mile away from PO, (i.e about a mile from my house), and the delivery/sorting office is about 2 miles away.

As of today, (16 days later), the tracking site is still saying, "Item **457908***GB was posted at 592 Blackpool Ro PR2 1JA on 10/12/10 and is being progressed through our network for delivery."

We had no snow around here until Friday 17th, so that cannot be an issue.
Last posting date for Christmas was 21st for first class, so I was well in time.
I could have hand delivered, but needed proof of delivery, hence RD.

    RM? pure Cr*p

I was told on Friday, (14 days after posting), by CS that nothing can be done until the letter has still not been delivered until 15 WORKING days have elapsed!

So looks like the letter is lost, anyone know what I can claim, as there are photos in the letter that will need reprinting?"

you can claim up to £41
however you cannot claim for consequential loss
you understand the difference in distance from your house/Post office/delivery office means very little?
its been quite some years since mail was sorted locally

I got the impression from CS that the mail was sorted at the local site?

Would the "up to" £41. only be funded via stamps? As I cannot pay to have the photos reprinted using stamps!
Surely the compensation should be funded without a monetary cost to me, stamps will be of no use as I have a fair stock at home and don't use them very often.

    .

mail sorting is done at large mail centres (old term Automated Processing Centre)
during the December period mail maybe shunted even further than normal.
eg Scottish mail has been sent to England to overspill sorting areas.
mail from northern Scotland has been shunted to Edinburgh
CS cant tell you where an untracked item has been sorted
where did i say the compensation would be paid in stamps?

I didn't say you did, I asked;- "Would the "up to" £41. only be funded via stamps?"

It is just that I had heard of people getting books of stamps as compensation.
