Is the copy of xp legitimate? if so then just a normal windows update should bring up a download of sp2 unless the sp1 he installed got corrupted somehow."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

It is obviously not genuine if it's copied. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Why don't you post in a forum such as http://forums.hexus.net/
You say SP1 is a copy? SP1 is not an operating system, Microsoft have been issuing service packs for a while on all their operating systems. They are free as they contain bug fixes and updates, so the fact it is a copy is not relevant. If the version of windows he is using is a copy, ie xp then it is likely you will encounter problems with the install, since a genuine windows validator was introduced. There are ways round it, if you so wish.
Alternative you could:
Buy a genuine XP disc. Home will cost about £55 OEM
Ditch microsoft and go for a super cool free linux setup.
Sometimes windows update can throw a wobbler. You can download the entire SP2 as a single file installer if it's that that is giving you problems. Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow.0 -

could you download sp1 and sp2 if you use a copy of win xp proNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes all the fixes originally issued in Service Pack 1, and a whole lot more. So Service Pack 1 is not a prerequisite to applying SP2. Just apply SP2 on top of whatever you've got...
John
PS You can download SP2 via the usual Windows/Microsoft Update method.0
