My son has just started uni in portsmouth doing Design for interactive media. He is interested in buying a Mac book pro.
Does anyone have any idea if it is worth paying more for a mac? or just going for a Normal laptop (windows)
Thanks

if he is doing work that uses a lot of graphics then macs are the way forward. another bonus is that macs tend to be targetted a lot less for viruses and things so he's less likely to end up with a whole load of lost work after plugging into the uni network and accidentally downloading something he shouldn't have.
the downside is that macs are typically more expensive, and he'll be less likely to be able to share games and programmes with his friends, (though this might be a good thing!)
personally i've never had a mac but i can see the merits in having one - you either like them or you don't, but i don't think compatibility is an issue anymore like it used to be.0 -
A new mac would offer the best of both worlds - you can run windows (if you really NEED to) using either Boot Camp or Parallels and you also get the stability of OS X. The new macs are (ironically) some of the fastest windows machines around.Wot, no sig?0
