Good idea to use up braising steak in a pie?

Did a stew yesterday with braising steak but realised we didn't put enough veggies in so there was too much meat. We (me & OH) took some of the meat out to use for something else. But I've just had a brainwave we've got alot of mushrooms to use up too so we could make steak & mushroom pie. Is this a good idea - I mean is braising steak suitable for this?
Also what's the easiest way to make pastry? I've only got flora (normal not the awful light stuff) or olive oil - are they any good for this? I thought of just putting pastry on top...?
Is it best to put gravy or some sort of sauce in it?
DP is by far the better cook but only just started OS lifestyle so need a lot of help until had a bit more practice!

I would chop & fry the mushrooms in a tiny bit of oil & then mix in with steak & gravy.
Stick it into an ovenproof dish & put a pastry lid on, then you don't get a soggy bottom.
Check what it says on your flora tub about baking. shortcrust pastry would be easiest.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
How about suet crust pastry? You just need Self raising flour and Atora, very forgiving, easy to make - and this has the BEST affinity with beef.0
