What happens if you have a prepayment meter fitted already?

Hello everyone!

Can someone help me please with a question...We currently have a NPower prepayment meter, I would like to swop over to cheaper provider without the meter fitted (normal billing etc.). Is it possible to do this, without us encurring a charge for removing the meter?

It can be possible to do this but you must get written agreement from the provider that is due to take your supply over.They may insist on carrying out a credit check and setting up by direct debit.Be careful as some companies will give people empty promises just to get them on board this is why it is important to have written confirmation or some other form of agreement

Most charge to replace the meters. British Gas generally don't. When I needed this doing, I called around and asked.

What happens if you have a prepayment meter fitted already?

The short answer is you're screwed.

Proper answer suppliers can be difficult about this. Some charge, best to check with them all. If you've had an account with a supplier previously with a good record of payment this supplier may be able to remove the meter free of chrage if you switch to them.

Make certain though as some people may not tell the truth just to pocket a bit of commission.
