Class 1 business insurance on a car insurance

I have checked my policy and can't find anything about 'class 1 business insurance'. I have third party, fire, and theft policy. When I filled in the form online, I put 'leisure and travel to work' (don't know the exact wording of it).
I need to travel from time to time for my job. My manager says make sure I have 'class 1 business insurance' before travel.
Is this only only comprehensive policies only?
Hope you guys can help.

Business use is not just for comprehensive policies.
You will need to contact your insurer to get this change made to your level of cover. Don't do any work related journeys in your car until you have the cover in place.0 -
You boss is right.
You are covered for commuting to your single permanent place of work and not for business travel.
The class of vehicle use (social, commiting, class 1 etc.) is different to your level of cover (third party, comprehensive).
You need to call your insurer and ask for a quote to add on class 1 insurance. There may be an amendment fee.
You might find your insurer does not offer class 1 (I've had this experience before).0 -

I think my colleagues don't have class 1 business insurance and still travelled, and nothing happend, etc...
I guess I could do that too.You boss is right.

How much is the increase to the current amount of insurance to add class 1 business insurance?
I know it depends on the insurer, but just want to know the approximate cost.0 -

Grow up - what would happen if they were involved in any incident?
They/you would be driving uninsured, which would definitely mean big financial trouble were you involved in any incident with a third party, and no cover were you to damage your car.
And probably in trouble at work too, as most employers would have this as as contractual obligation for you if you use your car on company business.0 -
Not to mention the concept of Vicarious Liability which would make your employer liable for the costs to third parties and guarantee you would be out of a job0

I've found it between £0-£50 but then I'm 42 with a good driving record.
I suspect it could be more for a younger person.
If your payments from your employer don't cover the cost of driving your car and it's not in your contract, then clearly you need to have a conversation with your employer.
What most employers do is to pay circa 40p per mile for the first XXXX miles. This higher rate should be enough to cover your additional costs like insurance and tyres.
If your employers arrangements are not good enough you need to discuss that with them, but the theory is that they pay you a rate to cover it.I guess I could do that too
You could lose your car, lose you job and get a conviction.
You wouldn't even have to do anything wrong. You might be involved in an accident that wasn't your fault but the police would still find out you had no insurance.
You could also be pursued for the money which could be big sums.
Do you understand how BAD an idea this is???
If you aren't happy with the financial compensation then the right way to appraoch it is to discuss with your employer, but bear in mind you have already accepted their current arrangements for some time.0
