Hi All,
My computer's now on it's last legs ... the processor's ancient and desperately slow, speakers faulty, etc. so time to get a new package.
I'm after some advice as to where to go. Dell looks expensive when you take into account all the "add ons", but I don't know anything about all the various brands or the best place to go to buy one.
Although I spend a lot of time on my computer and I'm prepared to pay to get a good one, I only really use it for ebaying/email/surfing and downloading photos. I would like some after sales technical support and preferably someone to transfer all the data from my old computer. I know you can get hold of a program to do this for you, but I wouldn't have a clue!
Anyone any advice please for a completely non-technical female?!
Cheers

The bottom of the range would do the job you describe, without any addons..

Do you know what spec computer you have?
If that's all you do is ebaying/email/surfing and downloading photos the surly the computer you got is quite sufficientWhile I breathe.... I hope0 -
Unfortunately it is not sufficient ... it dates back to 1998 and, although I'm on Broadband, the pages are so slow at loading, I've lost out many a time bidding on ebay! I'm just after a higher performance pc that will do what I need it to do.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

Forgot to add that I'm spending so much money on age-related repairs that I'm sure it will pay me to get a better one anyway.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

Norton ghost transfers data across from one computer to another, or you just need to ask around for someone local who can do it.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090

Dunno why so many on here recommend Dell, they really are mince, as displayed by the plethora of hardware issues they exhibit on the one's at my workplace.
Why not go with a local independant that could sell you one for what you need, for a couple of hundred quid, given it doesnt need to perform.
As for data transfer, you could ask the lad at said independant, to do that for you. Negociation is the key - show him how much you can buy one for online and ask him to match.0 -
what about the dell outlet on ebay?things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then

ebuyer are reasonable for systems, and you can get (i think) 1.5% going through quidco.
always try the today only page at https://www.scan.co.uk too
sometimes little local computer shops put together good deals.
as for your data backup - just burn it all to cd if you can.
If not then ask a local shop to take out the hard drive with all your data on it and archive the data to dvd discs for you.0
