Pet Insurance

What is a good pet insurance?
I currently have pet plan and pay £26 a month, which is far too much.
I want my excess to be £60 or under and have vet bills to be paid for around the £7000 mark.
I can't find alot.

Suggest you post on the pet board under the insurance thread.
You haven't provided enough information - cat, dog, horse etc. Age, pre-existing conditions, do you want cover for life etc. etc.0 -
Not very well advertised but I am with Virgin Money: http://uk.virginmoney.com/virgin/pet-insurance/
I have had an ongoing claim for my cat with diabetes for years now and they pay up really quickly.
I pay around £14 a month for my pedigree puppy and £12 for the cross breed and this is is for the 'for life' policy.
Pet Plan are VERY expensive IMO.
You can get cheaper but I did not find anything with the same £6000 cover, specially for life, for that price. I've been with them for a good number of years without a problem now.0 -
Wow! You guys are getting really cheap pet insurance - I only wish I could, but fear I'm stuck with what we have because our dog has pre-existing conditions now!
We are with Kennel Club, have been since our labrador was a puppy. Last year, the annual premium was £576. This year, it has gone up to £1,159!!! This is more than 2 x what we pay to insure both our cars, in London!
I contacted them & was told that we had been paying far too little (£576?) in previous years, so this year's had to go up in order to make up for that. Sounds like BS to us, so if anyone has any helpful suggestions we'd be most grateful. We also have to pay the 1st £65 of each claim, plus 10% of whatever is on top of that.0 -
Belle, what is the condition? Is it worth cancelling the insurance? The thing is, now you have the condition, it'll no longer be covered but everything else will be. if it is comething that will not give you over £1k a year in treatment I'd consider switching and saving the monhly premium to pay for the treatment.
I do pay around £400 for my other cat but she is VERY old and has diabetes so I pretty much get that back over a year so it is not too bad to be honest, it's like a savings account and it means I am covered for other things too.0 -
Kennel Club underwriters changed which I think was reflected in the premium increases.
Our own experience of KC was very positive when we lost our dog earlier this year. They paid everything over the excess including cremation fees and although we were paying by direct debit and we expected to have the balance of the year's premium deducted from our claim, they simply cancelled the rest of the premium collections.
As our dogs got older the premiums did go up every year especially once the older one reached 9.0 -
I am a vet nurse and to be honest i would highly recommend pet plan. The premiums are slightly higher but pet plan are more likely to pay out than most insurance companies. Vets will also do directclaims with pet plan (you pay the excess and they cliam the rest back) which means you don't have to find the initial cost up front.
I pay just under 10 a month for my cat and my policy hasnt gone up for 5 years, pet plan are quite good at keeping policy prices the same.
Any pet insurance is better than none but one to avoid is E&L- horrendous insurers that will not pay out for anything!!!
Most insurance excess is 70-90 pound so not sure you will find one with lower excess.0 -
I'm with petplan and our premium has just increased from £22/month to £27. This is for our golden retreiver who isn't even 2 years old until feb and has no pre existing conditions. I know goldens are a large breed but if this is the price now I'm dreading the price as he gets older.
I'm scared of changing as I find the whole pet insurance thing a minefield and kind of confusing and I'm scared of picking the wrong premium:oNothing to report:p0 -
Sorry to jump in on this thread, but I posted on the Pet Insurance thread with thus far no response.
I have received a good quote from Admiral for pet insurance but am wary due to their underwriters being The Ultimate Insurance Company, whom I have never heard of.
Has anyone used Admiral for pet insurance or The Ultimate Insurance Company for pet or other insurance?
Any feedback gratefully received.0
