Try making homemade bread/rolls to go with that homemade soup. Its not as difficult as you may think making it by hand. Hardest bit is the kneading. Failing that invest in a bread maker. The aroma of baking bread is fantastic.

If you or your OH have a microwave at work - cook 4 baked potatoes on a sunday for easy lunches!

Rub potatoes in oil then some salt...

    Stab a few times...

Pop into oven for around 1.5 hours or until skin is crinkly and crispy...

Allow to cool then wrap in foil - pop into freezer...

Defrost one the night before you need one and take some gated cheese or small tin of baked beans to work!

HM pizza! Ruddy marvellous, I made one on Friday night

And once you've got your dough (look in mega index thread for recipe) then the choice of toppings is endless - and it's cheap as chips!

Bravo on doing the cooking from scratch thing, once you get into the habit it's the most satisfying of things to do. And ready meals just won't ever taste the same

  • Pizza dough is nicest made in a breadmaker - you might consider buying one of these! Morphy Richards one is still around for £14.99 I think :D

I registered with Campbell's Soup's website, and occasionaly they email me with recipes. Ive tried quite a few, simple and easy to do and reasonable aswell.

Our favorite is a mushroom & chicken (diced breast) (1 would be enough for you and OH) cooked together, for about 10 mins, add a tin (400g) of condensed Campbells mushroom soup (add a little water, leave to simmer for about 20 mins, serve with pasta or french bread. Try adding garlic also (about 2 cloves)......Kids love it.

Thats just a taster of what they offer...worth a try

i love the campbells recipes :T

the UK site seems to be down at the mo :(http://www.campbellsoup.co.uk/

Here's what I made on Sunday, very easy and tasty curry.

    -cut up large onion
    -cut up mushrooms
-fry them both until golden in large saucepan (about 10 minutes at medium heat)
-add cubed meat and curry powder
fry the meat, turning the mixture occasionally (about 10 minutes)
-add tin of tomatoes, a few random herbs and some chopped up peppers

-simmer for 1.5 hours on lowish heat
Remove lid and steam off any excess water for the last 10 minutes.

result is a delicious curry, eat with boiled rice. Top MSE tip, put the rice in cold water in the saucepan at the start and it then takes less time to cook.

    Here's another easy idea.
    Bangers, beans + mash.

Tin of beans, heat them up in saucepan.
Cut up potatoes, boil them in water for half an hour (put lid on pan).
Start frying or grilling some nice sausages (pork & leak etc)
Drain the potatoes, put back in pan with lump of butter and get to work with large wooden spoon. Possibly add a touch of milk.

I've been cooking without using any ready made sauces for the last few weeks. I've found the random herbs helps - corriander, thyme etc. I sniff them and if they smell good they go in.

The only thing I could cook when I moved out was white sauce, this meant I could do macaroni cheese and cauliflower cheese from scratch!!! As my confidence grew I started making soups and slowly realised that I was not as bad a cook as I thought.

I totally agree about looking at the ingredients lists of sauces and packets. I cannot believe I used to ever buy Ragu or Stir Fry packet sauces!!!
