As someone who has struggled over the years trying to learn a foreign language through normal books/tapes and evening classes, I picked up the German foundation course a couple of years ago and I reckon it is the best self-teach course available. His approach is unique and the language is taught purely through listening and talking. I picked up basic German in no time at all, just listening to the CDs on trains and planes. I am going to have a go at the French one next.
Michel Thomas died a few years ago but he had something of an interesting, if slightly dubious life! Here's the Wikipedia article about him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_thomas
Best,
Pete

I have to say I totally agree with the views above. We have used the tapes to learn French and learn't more over a couple of hours than we ever did at GCSE. In fact my son uses them to compliment his school lessons and is constantly learning from the tapes rather than his teacher.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0

Hi,
thanks so much for this,Ive heard that Michael Thomas cds are excellent and was thinking of buying the Spanish course but which one would be best to get...foundation or advanced? I know abit of spanish already but im wondering if it would be best to begin from scratch as im sure he has different learning techniques to the one I was using?
Also..do these cds transfer to Ipod?
Thanks, Helen xlove my little man he is amazing :j0 -
Michel Thomas sound like he is permanently chewing on a Nuttalls Mintoe but his language courses are excellent. Once you get used to his voice and start to listen it is really worth it.
I know a bit of Spanish too but he explains the origins of the words and makes it easy to learn more.
Thanks to the OP0 -

I'd start with the foundation and then do the advanced. Even if you know some Spanish already I think it helps to start from the beginning if only as a refresher. Yes they transfer to iPod (or any mp3 player) without any problems.0 -
I agree with the previous remarks, they are the best and easiest language courses by far.
They are more than likely available to borrow from your local public library. That's where I got mine from.
So. helen81 you can Try-before-you-buy and make up your mind what is the best for you.0 -
Thanks for that, if my play voucher comes through I know what to buy. This will accelerate my earning power if i can speak French or Spanish albeit basic.
thanks OP.Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

I've considered buying a Michel Thomas course in the past, but the full price has always prevented me from buying them. Half price sounds great, and that's delievered too. Don't forget that going through Greasy Palm offers 1% cashback, Cashbacktoyou and Quidco offers 2%.
Might be worth trying the library too to see if you can get on with the style of teaching.
Good luck to all

Just out of interest, Amazon also have them at the same prices. Going to look at the Italian edition."Whatever happened to string?"0

I bought his Spanish course several years ago and have raved about it for a long time. Although I haven't used it for a while , for various reasons, it was the best money I ever spent, he is a fantastic teacher. He has a unique way of explaining the language and I remembered more from him in a very short time than I ever did from college. At half price it's definitely a bargain and I would highly recommend it.
I'm off to find the course now, I feel inspired again!0 -
Thanks for this, my two little girls are learning Spanish at the moment and half the time I haven't got a clue what they're saying. I've been looking for something to help me learn the language too, and this looks perfect
