Virus safe mode loop

It's a long shot but I have a nasty virus on my laptop and it's stuck in safe mode loop. It starts in safe mode, goes to blue screen and then freezes. I can get to the bios but it won't acknowledge any recovery disks including windows, I've even tried downloading to an external hard drive.
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate any help

Have you set it up in BIOS to boot from the CD drive first?

  • Yes I did try that but after the windows disk asks for the recovery disk to be put in, the laptop freezes again and I'm back to square one

You could try a rescue disc to scan at boot, there are a number of them

  • I'm beginning to wonder if the recovery disk is faulty. It was the sort that I had to make yourself as soon as I bought the laptop. It isn't a manufacturer's one that came with the laptop. I wonder if it didn't copy properly. The laptop is a Gateway.

do you have another computer? I would download the avira rescue cd, burn it off and boot from CD drive with the disc in. You should then be able to run a scan from the disc and it should pick up the viruses and remove it. Whether you can then boot in safe mode will depend on the files damaged. I recently repaired someones computer using this method.

If you can access the F8 menu on boot, you could also try loading from last known good configuration or change safe mode to start with the very minimum of settings.

Sorry for the delay, worked late right up to Christmas Eve.
Thanks for all the advice, tried Avira but no luck, I have also tried Kaspersky Rescue and Panda Safedisk. While they can both bypass Windows and get into my system, neither of them can actually clean it as the virus has locked out the internet and both rescue disks need this. Kaspersky did acknowledge that I had a Heur Exploit Script Virus Generic in c/windows/system 32 and although it was quarantined, the virus loop remains.
I was really hopeful this might have worked but I'm back to the blue screen of death again!
Any further ideas would be really appreciated.
Hope you all had a great Christmas!
