Fiat Punto is revving itself

My DH's car is behaving strangely and I am worried as we have a long journey on Friday.
Whenever he slows to about 10 MPH the car starts revving itself and the engine light has just come on.
His dad says it might be the cold (we're -13 here at the moment), does anyone have any ideas?

Sticky throttle body possibly.
When you say "revving itself" how many RPM's are we talking?
If the ECU light is on though just go to a garage that can read ECU faults and it should tell them what the problem is.
I wouldn't go on your long drive before getting it checked out as you'll be asking for trouble. There is a fault so get it chekedIf Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0
