Christmas gift double error

I bought my bf an electric tooth brush and hair clippers after he kept on dropping big hints.
His mother has just rang me and asked me to bring the gifts over tonight and shock horror she has bought him the same gifts.
Ok should I just take them or should I give them to his dad instead and give him his dads gift which is a pair of socks?

It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

I think one of you should give the toothbrush, the other the hair clippers and take the other set back for a refund and buy him something else. Explain what has happened on christmas day and tell him not to drop big hints with more than one person in future!!!0

I asked his mum if we can do that and she said no.It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Charming! I would tell your BF what has happened and ask him if you can take back the gifts and choose something else after christmas. He will probably see the funny side of it.
Are you able to make up a cheap stocking for him with bottle of beer, chocs, socks, top gear/fhm mag, shower gel etc (supermarket type things) so he has something from you at christmas?0 -
yeah, I will put some bits and bobs together what I was saving for his birthday. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

it does'nt sound like his mum is being fair, i would also be addament i was giving him the gifts you have bought, if him mother wont budge why should you be the one to not beable to give him the gifts he really wants. let him decide which he would like to keep he will probably see the funny side of it.:xmastree::xmassign::rudolf::xmastree:0

I would give him your present first to open then. MIL sounds very difficult0

I agree with bravobeastie.
Give your pressies FIRST. Then MIL looks like an afterthought.

Totally agree with the others, if MIL is not willing to compromise, give him your pressies first! She is being completely unreasonable!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

Sounds to me like she has always been the one to get 'her boy' what he wants and doesn't like the idea that there is someone else who is considerate enough to listen out for what he wants.
I like the idea of giving them to him first but it could backfire, 1) be unpopular with MIL and 2) MIL could tell son and son could then ask you why you didn't return it after she told you to (remember boys love their mums, he won't get it)
My suggestion would have been to each return one thing but since she isn't up for that....I would go out and buy him something else and return the things you have got. However try and make it something amazing, this site has some good offers, there's a site called Groupon (UK site), they do everything discounted and you get a voucher to claim back your chosen gift. I got my sister in law a subscription to a magazine for a year for £15 from here!! Anyway, get him something amazin and outdo MIL, then after Christmas in a jokingly way tell your bf how MIL refused to compromise!Don't Throw Food Away Challenge January 2012 - £0.17 / £10

My ex's mum asked me what I was getting him for Christmas and then went out and got him the exact same stuff. I made sure we opened our gifts first and then when he came home giggling with his duplicates I told him what she'd done and we returned her set using my receipts and got him some other bits.
Is there anything else he really wants that you could pick up in the next couple of days?Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
