Two questions

How do I find out definitively whether the building I am trying to buy a flat in is listed or not? The owner says not as it is a Georgian (conversion flats) facade/bldg which was extensively fire damaged and rebuilt in 1999 with only the shell intact and a modern neo-Georgian extension added.

Council refused planning permission recently for a roof terrace; part of their rather wafty arguments were that it is listed. Their website has no information on individual properties (just the historic monuments in the borough).

Second question (trying not to bore you all with 2 threads): how do I find out who does the mains gas in this street? I haven't lived in the UK since British Gas did it all and think it will be a privatised co now (?). I want to know if the mains pipes are new and safe and who to call in an emergency; the house on the corner always has a slight smell of gas outside it. With winter coming, I get nervous.
Second question addendum (ok maybe 3rd!!!!) how do I find a good Corgi registered plumber to get an annual boiler contract with? My landlord uses someone who came around and didn't even open up the boiler - he opened the cupboard and peered at it, opined that "oh these always go wrong" and left. Buying the flat, would like a more thorough service check.

thank you. Sorry about all the qs, just new to London, don't know anyone around here to ask.

'Phone the Council Planning Department and speak to the Building Conservation Officer (if they have one) or the Planner who dealt with the application for the roof terrace. They will be able to tell you if the building is on the 'statutory list', just 'locally listed' or not listed at all.
