I firmly believe that those with alcohol / overeating / drug issues are often avoiding dealing with painful issues and psychological problems.

In brief I think you are wrong in conflating alcohol and drug abuse with overeating.

Personally this kind of belief really depresses me, I find it quite sad that I have a good job, I work hard, I've achieved various things of which I'm proud (some big and some very small indeed), I'm lucky to have some great friends and a good relationship with my family. Yet if you saw me none of this would be considered, you would instantly decide that I've got some kind of psychological problem and am hiding some really painful issues.

I think this is the wrong place for me.

Souk - Congratulations on getting into those skinnies (genuinely, I'm not being snide after my comments above!). I am definitely impressed with people with good willpower around the biscuits.

Also congrats on getting another interview. You come across so positively on your diary and it is clear you would be a great asset to any company so I'm sure your days at the job centre are numbered....

    Good luck! xx
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

Make up, my love you're right....I GOT THE EDINBURGH JOB TODAY!!!!!!! I'm ecstatic and cant wait to start on Monday with my training.

And regarding the fat stuff...I'm just too vain to get big. If I could be happy being big then fine, but i couldnt peronally and make up I wouldnt think that. Id honestly just think that we had a different tipping point where weight is concered. Bear in mind Im a quite controlled being in general....for better or worse X

There are many circumstances where the reasons for abusive-eating and drug & alcohol abuse are coincident. There are also many circumstances when they are not. No one is saying it is always the case, and no one is saying it is never the case.

Some health reasons why they coincide:
    • Pre-diabetic condition: Your body is not handling sugar properly and starts craving it. You eat a big bar of chocolate. Or you drink 10 vodka and cokes which is metabolised as glycogen which is metabolised as glucose. In either case, craving is satisfied at the cost of a sugar high. Then comes the crash. So your body wants it all again.
    • Poor nutritional choices. You want protein. You eat chocolate. Belly fills until body says "That wasn't protein." and the hunger pangs start again. You drink a vodka and coke. Belly fills, until body says "That wasn't protein." Cycle repeats, but remember there is a sugar rush/crash each time, which has been shown to be addictive.

This is quite informative, despite its source: http://noms.icanhascheezburger.com/2011/08/10/funny-food-photos-what-you-want-vs-what-you-need/

So psychological reasons why they coincide:
    • Self-loathing: Some people eat and drink to excess because they have a anger/hate problem with themselves, and view what they are doing as a justified punishment.
    • Self-assurance: Some people eat and drink to excess because they are nervous in company and need something to hide behind. The comfort it brings becomes so overwhelming they seek comfort even on their own.

I've haven't mentioned drugs much, but the by-products of alcohol metabolism leads to some chemicals which are quite similar to opiates. The sugar high/crash cycle has also had the finger pointed at it for being similar to an opiate high/crash cycle.

    Some reasons they don't coincide:
    • Health: Some people have medical conditions. Cyril Smith (if you are of that age) was one of them. Didn't mean he hit the bottle.
    • Psychological control: Some people have lives with very little control. So they control one of the things they can - their weight. Making it too high, and making it too low is still control. They don't hit the bottle as that means they're losing control.
This is not an exhaustive list, but you get the idea.

No. It is a possibility, just like it would be a possibility if you were waif-thin. But there are other possible reasons, and no one is claiming they don't exist.

Why? Nobody is judging you, they are just bringing their own knowledge and experiences to the table.

Ah, you see - I could get used to a life of leisure and hedonism. I just needed to be born to parents who owned a big chain of hotels.

Alas - this did not happen...
