Renting - muddy feet

We have very thankfully let our property within 4 weeks of it going up (after 9 useless months of trying to sell it!).
However, the letting agent has shown at least 4 people round and it is evident they have not taken their shoes off. There are mucky prints all over the front room and up the stairs.
The letting agent girl who I spoke to said she "hadn't come across this before and would let me know of an outcome when they do the inventory" within the next week.
What should I expect on this? The property is still ours and it is has peeved me that they've just not given one when going in. Should I expecting them to clean the carpets or should I get them cleaned and invoice them?

Surely it's a quick brush/scrub of those bits of the carpet and all sorted.
Doesn't feel worth being stressed about or sorting someone in so you can invoice them. After all, it's a fairly simple mistake as people often forget to remove shoes or don't realise how dirty they are at the time - or am i the only one who has done that by mistake?0 -
It's one reason we've not got the carpet cleaning person booked to come do the ones in the place we're vacating until the absolute last minute - because I know the LA would show people around and (inevitably in this weather) get mud and gunk on the carpet then charge us for it off the deposit!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

I'd always prefer to rent a place that had no carpets - they're such a liability. Hard flooring + rugs wins every time for me.0

I've viewed a few placed to rent and I'd never dream of taking my shoes off. Sorry. However I would make sure my shoes were not muddy, thats just respectful.0

perhaps you should state that only people with clean feet need applymy favourite food is spare ribs0

Edit: Fleh I saw Letting Agent and assumed you were an outgoing tenant. Therefore ignore me !
Send them an email saying you are not happy about them bringing in people with muddy feets and that they all should take off their shoes as a matter of basic courtesy.
Hopefully they wont do it anymore, and secondly you can use it as evidence if they want to claim against your deposit for 'soiled carpets'...
Finally if they have no inventory at the start of the tenancy, then there is nothing to compare it against. Send them an email asking them why one was never done. Again more evidence for deposit. LAs have a habit of charging a minimum £50-100 for misc cleaning at the end of any tenancy. Anyone not had a LA try to take some deposit?0 -

Please don't take this the wrong way, but are you sure you want to let out your property? If you are worried about a few marks on the carpet, I think becoming a landlord may end up a stressful experience for you.0 -
Thats not the point the property hasn't been let yet,I am currently trying to sell a property which has brand new carpets and I have no qualms about asking people to take off their shoes, would you want to move into a property that had mud all over the carpet0
