I always put £10 in a card. Didn't know they shouldn't accept gifts. Hope this is OK and doesn't cause him problems.

Dont worry, it's only tax purposes that people are worried about tipping as you're meant to declare any tips to the tax office (I used to be a waitress when at Uni). BUT ask Tax office to prove that tips were received. (It's only once a year).

My hubby used to bring home quite a few homemade mincepies and so on which he appreciated, obviously cash was nice. He also used to get quite a lot of baby clothes and teddybears off the older folks who liked buying baby stuff but didn't know anyone with a baby (they did know we had a baby/babies at the time - we had lots of new baby stuff when he went on paternity leave too)

He suggested thermal socks as light enough to carry and very handy - got fingerless gloves free from royal mail

Mine has a car so I asked him (sounds well) if he drinks & what he likes. I got him a bottle of bacardi & he seemed really pleased. You could pop a few quid in with his card as cash is always handy.
