Advice please - had a wee accident!!

Hi everybody!
A few weeks ago I went house hunting in a little village and pulled into a tiny lil cul-de-sac to have a nose, I reversed slowly and couldn't see anything behind me then I heard a bang, I pulled away and looked behind me out the window, couldn't see anything so I assumed I'd hit a kerb quite hard! Anyway a delivery man was watching me so I got embarrassed and drove off thinking I'd hit a kerb or post.
Anyway today, I got a letter from the police saying that the kerb was in fact a motorcycle  and I'd left the scene of an accident and failed to report it etc, and quoting different scary acts such as dangerous driving, and no care and attention!!
I've rung the police and sent back the forms etc, apparently its a broken indicator and scratched paintwork, I can't see there can be that much damage as I must have only gently pushed it over.
I don't really want my partner finding out so want this done without insurance, anyone got any advice etc? However, I don't want to spend a fortune
14 years driving on my own insurance and my own car and nothing, the moment my partner gives me his beloved car and bam!!!
And am I likely to get points for this!! Eeekk!!
Thanks in advance! xxxx

In my experience provided you make contact with the person you hit and sort it out between you (on insurance or otherwise) the police will take no further action.Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.0

If you were driving as a named driver in someone else's car, how did the police trace you??
You are likely to get points and fined. You will have to tell the insurer about both the incident and any subsequent penalty and points if you are convicted. So impossible to keep this a secret.
Also if you are a named driver elsewhere you will have to notify the policyholder so that the insurer can be informed.
You can let your insurer deal with this then reimburse them (if it's cost effective), thereby keeping the policyholders NCD intact.0 -
Contact the motorcycle owner, apologise profusely and make good the damage caused - sooner rather than later. Inform the police officer dealing with the case of what you are doing as well. Hopefully you can avoid prosecution, however in the eyes of the law the fact you thought you didn't hit anything is no excuse.

As Quentin states, your OH must know about this already, as surely he's registered keeper of the car, and the police would have contacted him first to ask him to name the driver of the car at the time of the accident."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

To be fair you didn't see the bike so how can you comment on the damage?
Without knowing what sort of bike it was you can only guess.
Custom paint job and a cracked fairing and we could be talking thousands.0 -
Advice please - had a wee accident!!
Sorry Bubbles but you just cracked me up, having had my daughters 20 month old twins with us this week, we ,no pun intended, have made a concerted effort to get them out of nappies,;)
We have had several wee accidents:rotfl::rotfl:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Agree with PsiDOC about getting proactive and making the bike owner happy (or at least less unhappy) but I think that not knowing you had hit something is a defence to a failing to stop charge.
Whether such a defence will be believed (and if it is whether not noticing you had knocked a bike over will lead to a due care & attention charge) is a different matter.
Hopefully the problem will go away once the bike repaired0 -
