One of my email accounts hijacked

Can anyone help me with this?
One of my email accounts has been hijacked and is sending messages which appear to be from me. When I look in the sent folder nothing is there. I have up to date malware and virus programmes and run them often. I have deleted contacts from my list and I can stop using the account but should I do anything else?

so you believe that someone has been using your email account to email other people?
if you have changed the password then ti should be secure, assuming there is not some kind of keylogger on the system0 -

bear in mind op, it is possible to send email to someone and fake the actual address origin it was sent from.
e.g you will get spam email that 'appears' to be from legitimate source such as support @ natwest .com but real origin is hidden.
i am no expert but they may be using your address so that the contact list view it as trusted
if it is not a primary email address and you can drop it, advise the email provider it has been compromised and they should ko it0 -
Thanks for the replies - I can easily stop using it so that might be the best option.0
