Home/Buildings Cover

Hi,

I currently have cover provided by the AA for buildings and contents. Got a call recently about this new emergency service they are advertising and they reeled off a list of things that it provides which I would expect my policy to cover.

Its going to cost £59, was wondering if people think this is good value?

Also is a boiler covered by a normal insurance policy or do you have to get extra cover?

You could ask them to send you some info on this policy or check online on their website for full details. Some home policy books have the information as well even if you haven't initially opted for the cover.

This is a "Home Emergency" cover that they are trying to sell you - for boiler break down, burst pipes, electricity failure and other features. So they would get a tradesman out if you had suffered a home emergency that fell under the categories covered.

You are normally covered up to a certain amount for call-out, labour, parts, materials and there are usually various exclusions which you would need to read to decide if you need this cover.

Your boiler is not usually covered for breakdown on your buildings / contents policy but you are covered for any damage caused for water damage for example caused by this. It's the same with burst pipes - damage caused is covered but the repair of the pipe might not be.

£59 does not sound like a bad price for 12 months cover (but I would urge you to check any restrictions to see if it's suitable for you) and the other thing I would point out is that insurers earn relatively a lot of commission on this type of policy. So if you feel you need this type of cover you can still shop around to find the best deal.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi folks

We had a LOT of snow in NI over the week. On Sat There was a huge snowslide off my conservatory which took out the guttering on that side. The next day the snow slid off the other side taking out the guttering. i contacted Endsleigh Insurance who said because it was over 2 days they are separate claims and that i would have the excess of £200 to pay on each claim.....Are they allowed to do that?
