I was just there! Fantastic and really moving place. The waterfalls nearby are also really lovely if you can get there in the morning before the crowds decend.

To be honest, my plans are really in the air as I'm waiting to hear if an overseas transfer (to Uganda) will go through. It will make such a huge difference to my income and my expenses that its hard for me to do any financial planning until I know if it will happen.

Hi there Asiacat - what an impressive list - very inspiring! I hope you get to do all that and more, and I'm sure you will! You seem very determined!
I hope to pay off in 2011 a minimum of £15,000 off my debts...and grow vegetables and fruit, learn how to do plumbing so I can renovate our bathroom. I'd also like to finish off doing all the niggly bits left over in my house, claim back bank charges etc in the hope I'll be debt and mortgage free by the time I'm 45.
    All the best

  • Asiacat - that is an amazing list, I loved the 'experience matters more than acquisitions' I might have to sign up to that philosophy and make it my New Year motto.

For me I plan to get on with doing what I enjoy and stop waiting for company, from January 2010 I have been longing to see a play and have been begging my sisters and friends to come along - because I didn't want to go alone, I can't believe it is December and I still have not been.
So for 2011 I will be flying solo - and experiencing all my heart desires.:)

I have made quite an extensive plan to become debt free in 2 years and a follow up plan where I will finally be financially free in 3 years, having an emergency fund, 6 months salary saved, restarting my pension and savings for a house deposit.
    Payment a day challenge £10.30 so far - NSDs 1/4 - £2 savers club - £78

    My aims are simples...

Learn at least 1 foreign language. I started Rosetta Stone German a couple of weks back and its going great. In a month or so's time, ill start to learn Mandarin alongside it.

Become a Level 2 Kayak instructor. I've been paddling for about 4 years but never took the plunge and got the qualification.

Although on the surface they dont seem to be 'Money oriented'... well.. they arent.. but another language or two will open many many more doors career wise (Regardless of your career path, Employers will look more favourably on one who can speak the lingo of elswhere over a candidate who has the same profile as you and cant) Also being an instructor can net an nice amount of cash for doing a few hours of something I love.

Also, to be more positive - I tried this a couple of years back and it worked great - I feel better, people act better around me. I just wanna be MORE so :)

I think the hardest thing to do will be to give up procrastination. I'm a stickler for putting things off. Im going by my brothers mantra - JFDI - Just 'Effing' Do It!

Asiacat, what a wonderfully inspiring post. I'm so glad I caught it. I am wishing yo the best I know together we will do it!

So, I'm coming to 30 and realise money isn't everything. A worthy and valued life is what really matters. Good family, good friends and a roof over your head is really all I need.

Here is my list of desires sprinkled with a little bit of practical advise.

    WORK
I will become less passionate and will ride the waves of corporate stupidity. Life is too short.

I will not stress myself out over work and take time off as I want it (I'm lookin at you January 2011).

I will bite the bullet and spend that £1000 for that IT training course I've been eyeing up for 2 years. You reap what you sow. Life is what matters.

I will make a side-income of doing what I know best afterall £20 to fix a PC is better than a kick in the teeth.

I will continue to save a minimum of 15% of my salary every month.

I will finally setup that website I've been dreaming of. I've seen far too many of "my ideas" :p show up elsewhere as a valued service! (now I'm not saying I was the first to think of it, but who knows what could have been if I progressed the idea)

    HOME

I will sell all the consumerist junk I've bought, give it away on freecycle or dump it.

I will never buy consumer junk just because it's on sale.

I will never ever ever ever ever ever buy due to an impulse purchase.

I will keep a better eye on my finances and make sure I'm switching services to save money.

I will continue to put all 1p, 2p, 5, 10p, 20p into the piggy bank. When i'm feeling flush, I'll put in 50p's.

I will pay my final ever debt off on Dec 29th for a truly successful and fresh start to 2011.

I will stop trying to being a perfectionist and just f******* do it.

I will track my spending using my mobile phone.

I will switch to a bank that offers good mobile banking so i can obsessively watch my money.

    SOCIAL
I will pay it forward and help others whenever I can.

I will be that guy who talks to strangers on the train or in queues, I will get a smile out of you!

I will make new friends and learn to appreciate everyone in my life.

I will find someone to love and I will find someone that loves me.

I will be successful in 2011!

Good to look to everyone deciding to turn the page in their life

Whether or not this is possible is another thing but I plan to be debt free by the end of march (hence username) so that I can go into summer actually enjoying it! (not having constant worry and stress at the back of mind, that I have now)

This will mean scaring myself to death for the beginning of the year but my future can only be better for having dealt with this....

IF this isn't possible, my plan B, is to be debt free by 1st Jan 2012

I am going to start doing surveys to make extra income and try to sell anything that I am no longer using.

Once debt free, I will still make the same payments whenever possible into my savings account so that I have any money there for emergencies/big bills - insurances, winter fuel costs, etc etc meaning I hopefully wont need credit again!

I'm also looking for work so I'm thinking positive and I will have a better income in 2011, as I'll be working.

So those are the plans....feel free to send me advice on making money online ;):)

Iv already made a plan that (all going well) since I will be debt free in 2012, I will start (hopefully be in a position to) make overpayments to my morgage. Then I will also look into the morgage free in three years from there....I can't quite figure out how on earth I will ever manage that, but hey, baby steps I suppose.

Basically I'm determined that I want to be debt free by the end of 2011, actually have a penny to my name and not only be 'on the breadline' and terrified of emergency costs by the end of 2012 and by 2013 come up with a plan to pay my morgage off much faster than the 30 years that look so daunting!
I think the hardest thing to do will be to give up procrastination. I'm a stickler for putting things off
Yep! Thats something that I am going to have to give up in 2011! Stop making excuses, face things and deal with them as and when - instead of hoping they will go away or that I can 'do it later' and before you know it....

Oh, forgot to add, I am also going to have a clear out - no matter what state the house gets into in the process, it will be worth it when its done and from then on I will have a housekeeping 'schedule' (including all financial dealings etc) This may be one of the hardest yet!! It's going to be a very hard year for me (clearing out, dealing with debt, finding and keeping work....keeping 'on top' of everything etc) but one that, hopefully, will be worth it.
  • I just wanted to wish everyone good luck for their aims and aspirations in 2011. I've found all of the posts very inspiring and I'm determined to clear 50% of my debt in 2011. I would dearly love to be debt free by 31 December 2012 so I can stop worrying and get on with my life.

I've set myself a strict but realistic budget and am going to stick to it come hell or high water so I can achieve my goal.

Have a very happy new year all fellow debt free wannabes xxxx

I will try to become debt free by the end of next year.

I will lose 8 pounds no matter what.

I will finish and pass both OU courses I'm doing at the moment.

    I will declutter my flat.

I will keep regular contact with my family.

We will start trying for a baby at the end of next year...
