Abroad,ATM card locked down?

I'm currently in Thailand at the moment and as per usual my Lloyds ATM card won't work until I have phoned England and gone through the security process.
I've now had to phone twice and still all I get when I insert it in the ATM is "Transaction cancelled,contact issuing bank".
They know I'm here and for how long.
I will have to phone again today and I'm likely too loose my temper because as well as being very inconvienent and time wasting,by the time I've got through the automatated part of the service and actually managed to speak with someone it's costing me 4 quid per phone call.
When I return to the UK do you think I have valid grounds to re-claim the money I've had to spend on phone calls because if it had been one time,I'd have let it go,but three times no!
Anyone else had similar problems?
Thanx in advance.:mad::mad::mad:

  • We had a similar situation a couple of years ago. When I wrote to the bank on our return I got a £50 credit without even asking! Couldn't believe it!
  • Barclays used to let you reclaim call costs when this happened. Why don't you try and reverse the charges by calling the international operator.

    Try this website for a number to call to call collect/reverse the charges

  • That happened to me in Thailand about 3 or 4 years ago. I was with Halifax. I complained when I got home and got approx £40 compensation. It took apprx 2 days for my card to get unblocked. I believe there is a lot of Card fraud in Thailand. Halifax require me to phone them before I travel to ensure the card is unblocked. There have been no problems recently. But it is a pain having to go thru the whole automated rigmarole just to get to speak to someone. I carry a Nationwide debit card as well these days and that has never been blocked.

    Happens to me almost every time I go to the US with Nat West.

    Since I pointed out they got a bit OTT the day they blocked my card after I used it over the phone to book an air ticket (was cheaper to buy it from the airline's US office) and then in my local corner shop which I often use my card in -by saying I couldn't be in Atlanta and Kent on the same day it hasn't got blocked since.

    Overall having had my card used fraudulently in the past I'd rather they erred on the side of caution but it does get irritating.

    if you have your passport on you try going into tha bank and getting money out if it is a visa card. BOS told mu hubby to try that. They might give you it. Thailand and it if rife with fraud please be careful where you use it.
