Taylor Tanner Publications-beware!!

I run a small garage business in the highlands and was contacted by Taylor Tanner Publications thanking me for my past sponsorship of their charity safety books for schools.I couldn't remember sponsoring books but as I had given to charities before assumed it was one of them. They asked if I would like to sponsor more books for local schools and that I could nominate a school in my area.I was a bit dubious about it all but the sales patter was so intense and fast that before I knew it I was transferred to another department and asked to confirm my name & address then told that I owed them £145 + VAT & postage!!?? PARDON? I said I did not know what I was paying for so the girl at the other end of the phone said she would send me a sample booklet and hung up!! I heard nothing for over a month then last week received a phone call saying I had an overdue account with them and they wanted payment.I said I had no correspondence from them,no invoice etc or even the sample book I was promised. They said they would send a sample and hung up.The sample arrived with a covering letter explaining why my advertising details weren't on the book- again very dubious.I tried calling to cancel the so called order-to no avail.I looked up their website which looked very professional but further down on the search engine listing there was a warning about this crowd. They are con men from Liverpool who are conning hardworking small businesses out of hardearned money by professing to be a charity!! PLEASE DON'T TAKE THEIR CALL as they record you and then threaten you with court action and bailiffs if you don't pay. They don't seem to ever carry out their threats but alot of people are so scared by their tactics they pay. They are sponsored by a search engine on their website and thats the search engine that I found the info on them on...its very interesting reading-check it out!!DON'T GET CONNED!!

Further to my last post the information about Taylor Tanner and all the previous names they have gone under is available on https://www.grumbletext.co.uk Hope this helps!!
  • Our stock answer to these people is that we only give to local charities so they've made a mistake, thank very much and put the phone down before they have the chance to catch us out. They're very slick and its easy to get drawn in.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • There are several of these companies that have tried, and on one occasion, suceeded, to get money from our very small, non-profit making club, we have sponsored a couple of causes but I was convinced we hadn't repeated the same company, especially as the only thing on the back of the back of the booklet about us was our name and a postcode, not very much for £245 + VAT!
The had a very convincing manner and I also began to wonder if we had actually agreed to another sponsorship.
A letter arrived demanding payment so I telephoned the number and asked for written confirmation about the so called agreement, they became more and more demanding so I told them I had done a business search and they were not listed but if they leave me a landline telephone number I will double check and get back to them, they said they will check their records and call me back, they never did.

Although the last one does have a website, they are very, very demanding and intimidating.

If you don't think you have agreed to sponsoring something like this, you probably haven't!
